Rev. Lyle Hawthorne Powell, Jr., 95 and longtime resident of Penny Farms Retirement Community, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021. Rev. Powell was born April 13, 1926 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to parents Lyle and Bonnie (Dawson) Powell. Lyle was enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the end of the WWII era. He was a Methodist Minister as well as Missionary in North India for 34 years. While overseas, he acted as a District Superintendent in the Agra Conference, and a School Administrator. He also was able to serve as an Administrator at Woodstock School where his children had studied. In his free time, he enjoyed square dancing, bowling, and was an avid reader and stamp collector. He also enjoyed opera, a passion he shared with several family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Naomi "Willine" (Whiteley) Powell, brother, William Powell, and sister, Jean Robinson. Survivors are his children, Mary Powell, of Wyoming, Lyle Powell (Jo) of Washington, Steven Powell (Jo) of Texas, and Ken Powell (Susan) of Washington. Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Abby, Tim, Aubrey, Madison, Manisha, Chandini, Malati, Vitthal, and great grandchild, Amelia. There will be no services held at this time.
