Mrs. Mattie Lou Barkley

March 18, 1929 - March 21, 2022

Mrs. Mattie Lou Barkley, 93 of Green Cove Springs, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022. Mrs. Barkley was born March 18, 1929 to parents P.L. and Stella (Justus) Barnett. Mattie attended Harbor Baptist Church of Fleming Island and was retired from Hudson Paper Mill as an assembly line worker as well as Enterprise where she was a “Professional Driver” for 20 years. She also owned a ceramic shop called Jo Matts in the past. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and watching FOX news. She also loved her pets and watching the birds in her yard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, George Melvin McGrath, husband, Chester Barkley, brother, Joe Kutta and half-brother, Doug Kutta. Survivors are her children, Tony Parish (Cindy) of San Mateo, Duff Parish (Jeri) of Palatka, and Perry Parish (Brenda) of Interlachen, step-children, Star Britt (Richard, Jr.) of Darlington, SC, Chris Barkley of Green Cove Springs, and Steve Barkley of Alabama, sister, Cindy Barnett Chaffin of Hudson, half-sister, Tillie Kutta Poe (John) of Trinity, TX, and half-brother, Billy Kutta (Denise) of Texas. She was lovingly called “Granny” by twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2022 in the Chapel of Helm-Gallagher Funeral Home with Pastor Warren Chesser officiating. The family will hold a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
